Climate change and hydrology with emphasis on the Indian subcontinent

چکیده

On a regional scale, some of the most profound impacts of climate change due to increases in greenhouse gases would probably be major changes in the hydrological cycle, in water availability, in agricultural production and in the use of energy. This paper gives a brief overview of studies carried out on climate change and possible impacts on hydrology and water resources in India, covering also the agricultural aspect. The need is emphasized for carrying out further studies in this important subject area at the national level, keeping in view the data and computing facilities available. Hydrologie et modification climatique avec référence particulière au sous-continent indien Résumé A l'échelle régionale, les effets les plus notables d'une modification climatique due aux gaz à effet de serre seraient sans doute d'importantes modifications du cycle hydrologique et donc de la disponibilité de l'eau, de la production agricole et de l'utilisation de l'énergie. Le présent article donne un aperçu des études menées en Inde sur les modifications climatiques et leurs conséquences au niveau de l'hydrologie et des ressources en eau, y compris les aspects agricoles. Il insiste sur la nécessité d'entreprendre au niveau national de nouvelles études concernant cet important problème, en tenant le plus grand compte des données et des moyens de calcul disponibles.
